Housekeeping

Meet our Housekeeping unit, a dedicated team of 171 individuals who ensure your campus experience is nothing short of exceptional. They are your valued partners, working diligently behind the scenes to ensure your residence halls and recreational facilities are always pristine and inviting.

Our housekeeping team values responsible behavior, conducting themselves professionally, politely, respectfully, and ethically, and holding themselves accountable to the highest standards.

At the core of their mission lies collaboration and communication. They work hand in hand with students, faculty, and staff, ensuring that every corner of our facilities shines with professionalism and care. In the dynamic landscape of Residential Facilities, our housekeeping team stands as a pillar of support, with some staff members serving our community for over 35 years.

Our Commitment to Excellence: CIMS Accreditation Renewal 2024

Since 2008, Residential Facilities has proudly maintained accreditation under the Cleaning Industry Management Standard (CIMS), a distinguished third-party accreditation setting the benchmark for successful, high-quality cleaning operations.

Every two years, CIMS conducts a thorough assessment of our Housekeeping unit, scrutinizing every aspect of our operations to ensure we exceed industry standards.

During their visits, CIMS representatives conduct physical inspections, engage with our staff, and evaluate our performance against their criteria. Their independent judgment ensures we not only meet but surpass expectations.

With our accreditation renewal in May 2024, we remain steadfast in our commitment to maintaining our high standards. This assessment provided another opportunity to showcase our dedication to excellence and reaffirm our commitment to providing top-tier residential facilities. Our proven track record of 16 years of continuous accreditation speaks volumes, and we're eager to continue delivering exceptional results for our residents and stakeholders.

We are proud of our Housekeeping team and the high quality of the services they provide everyday.

Certifications

Our staff are licensed and  certified with the Maryland Department of Agriculture (MDA).  We have yearly certification training and our records and /shop areas are audited by the MDA every 2 to 3 years.  When we must use pesticides we rigidly adhere to the proper use and application directions provided by the manufacturer.  Every pesticide comes with a label for use, which includes mix rates, approved application sites and insects that it may control. The label is the LAW, period. If we use a pesticide we will use it in accordance with that label.

Our Staff are also certified through the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to ensure the safe trapping, handling and relocation of wildlife.  Yearly reports of any interactions with wildlife are submitted to the DNR.  Campus is home to many different types of mammals such as squirrels, bats, deer, foxes, opossums and groundhogs to name a few.  Generally, wildlife is left alone unless it decides to call one of buildings home or poses a health or safety risk to the campus community.
