Entering Your Living Space

By calling in a maintenance request, you are giving us permission to enter your space. We understand this can be an inconvenience, and we train our staff to respect your privacy. Staff will only enter your living space with a valid reason, typically due to a work order or an emergency.

What to Expect

  1. Knock and Announce: Staff will knock and announce themselves as "Residential Facilities," "Maintenance," or "Housekeeping."
  2. Explanation: They will explain why they are there.
  3. Identification: Staff will identify themselves personally if you ask.
  4. Follow-Up: They will inform you if they need to return.
  5. Clean-Up: They will leave the space as they found it, cleaning up any mess created.
  6. Notification: If no one is present, they will leave an "I Was Here..." note explaining their visit and any future plans.

Entering Rooms During Breaks

During winter and spring breaks, our staff continues to work, focusing mainly on public areas like hallways and lounges, and addressing previously reported issues in student rooms.

Scheduled Work: We'll notify you in advance of any work scheduled in your room or residence hall. Facilities notification emails include:

  • Reason and nature of the work
  • How you can assist us
  • Dates of the work
  • Contact information for questions or concerns

Unplanned Work: Urgent work may occur during breaks without prior notice. We'll notify you as it happens.

For individual service requests, our staff will leave an "I Was Here..." note along with a copy of the completed work order in your room.

We respect your privacy and strive to minimize inconvenience when entering your living space. If you have questions or concerns please contact the Service Center to speak with one of our staff.
