Summer Work
During the summer, our Facilities Maintenance staff and housekeepers prepare halls for fall residents and summer guests. We assess room and building conditions, prioritize essential repairs, and tackle disruptive projects like installing new carpets, furniture, and mattresses, painting rooms and lounges, and replacing light bulbs and faucet washers.
Floods and Fire
Our team responds to emergencies such as floods, drain back-ups, and fires, drawing staff from Building Services, Facilities Maintenance, and our management team. We also address weather-related emergencies, including hurricane and electrical storm damage.
Personal Property Damage
If a facilities issue, such as a water leak, pipe break or sprinkler discharge occurs in your residence hall, we will respond as quickly as possible to address the issue and help prevent further damage.
The University is not responsible for damage to, theft of, or loss of personal property. Students are encouraged to verify that their belongings are covered under their parents' homeowners insurance policy or under a renters insurance policy.
If you believe your property was damaged as the result of University negligence, you may file a claim under the Maryland Tort Claims Act. Information about the claims process is available on the Department of Environmental Safety, Sustainability and Risk (ESSR) Risk Management website. All claims are reviewed separately and reimbursement for damaged property is approved or denied by the State Treasurer's Office.
