Planning, Design & Construction

Meet our Planning Design and Construction (PDC) team, the experts behind the scenes guiding the development of University Housing and other Division of Student Affairs’ facilities. From master planning, project initiation, and design through construction and delivery they provide leadership and expertise to our community. 

Our PDC team oversees new constructions, renovations, infrastructure, life safety upgrades, and other major maintenance initiatives. Additionally, they are responsible for interior architecture design, space planning, and housing accessibility upgrades. They promote wise stewardship of physical assets and provide high-quality and creative solutions in support of the University’s mission.

Planning 

  • Develops and maintains Facilities Strategic Plan addressing housing and maintenance needs, ensuring ADA compliance
  • Manages Facilities Condition Assessment Process and Capital Renewal Multi-year Plan
  • Partners with Financial Services for Capital Budgeting
  • Directs building and space Planning and Programming
  • Leads Space Planning and studies, including new building, feasibility, and master planning. Makes recommendations to improve efficiency of existing spaces
  • Manages interior changes and features including room numbering schema, building interior signage, and updates to the campus Integrated Work Management System for building information
  • Coordinates planning activities with the University's Facilities Management, Planning and Construction Department, the Department of Resident Life, and Living Learning Programs to enhance the classroom environment within Residence Halls

Design 

  • Develop and enforce Housing and University design guidelines, standards and expectations
  • Leads in-house architectural design
  • Leads in-house interior design including the selection of furniture, fixtures and equipment
  • Manages the coordination of engineering disciplines including, Mechanical, Plumbing, Fire Protection, Electrical, Civil, Structure, Landscaping, etc.
  • Completes building code analysis
  • Completes 3D renderings
  • Oversee, review and manage the designs of outside design firms for new buildings, major building renovations, and site improvement projects
  • Assists in the implementation of the Campus Beautification program
  • Coordinates design activities with the Universities’ Architecture Landscape Review Board (ALRB) and Facilities Management, Planning and Construction Department

Construction 

  • Construction Management of capital renewal, major and minor renovations, and site improvement projects
  • Administers Construction Administration (CA) during the Construction Phase to inspect project construction sites and monitors work for conformance with construction documents, quality standards, University procedures, building codes/regulations, and adherence with the University’s Design and Construction standards
  • Ensures Construction/Project site safety and standards
  • Project Management services to manage various stages of projects and provide collaborative leadership acting as the primary interface with customers, architects, engineers, and construction work forces
  • Contact Administration responsible for project contract procurement, contractor/consultant pre-qualification, change-order review and processing, professional agreements, contractor payment applications, and all other contractual matters
